* Speak Up Survey

Parent Survey

Speak Up, a national online research project facilitated by Project Tomorrow®, gives individuals the opportunity to share their viewpoints about key educational issues, particularly concerning 21st century education and technology. Each year, findings are summarized and shared with national and state policy makers.

WCPSS is asking students, parents, educators and community members to provide their input on this survey. Please complete the survey by Decmeber 19, 2014 at http://www.speakup4schools.org/speakup2014/

Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM)

credit by demonstrated mastery Starting in 2015, students will be able to earn credit for a course without spending a set number of hours taking the course in a classroom. Under the state’s new Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) option, uniquely qualified students may “test out” or bypass a course if they have already mastered the content.

If you would like more information, check out their website: http://www.wcpss.net/parents/guides/credit-by-demonstrated-mastery/. You can also download their flyer for more information about parent info sessions.

Save Money - College Application Week 2014

NORTH CAROLINA COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK

NOVEMBER 10-14, 2014

CFNC.ORG/CAW

The goal of North Carolina College Application Week is to provide every graduating high school senior the opportunity to apply to college online through CFNC.org. Special focus is placed on students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who may have not otherwise seriously considered attending college.

During this statewide college access event, all 110 North Carolina colleges and universities accept the College Board fee waiver in lieu of an application fee, for students who qualify. Typically students who receive the SAT or ACT fee waiver, also qualify for the College Board fee waiver. See your high school counselor for more information about the College Board fee waiver. Additionally, many of North Carolina’s colleges and universities go above and beyond and outright waive their application fee for all North Carolina graduating seniors that week.

The College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) and the Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (CACRAO) co-sponsor College Application Week.
