Visual Arts Teacher
Dan DeProspero has a Master's degree in Visual Art with emphasis on sculpture and ceramics. His undergraduate studies included extensive work in painting, print making and drawing. After graduation from West Virginia University he spent fifteen years in Japan studying traditional Japanese ink painting (sumi-e) and ground pigment painting (nihon-ga) under the direct tutelage of the Inten School artist Meitoku Tanaka. He is proficient with state of the art computer graphics and animation software and co-designer of the KHS Computer Art and Animation course. Mr. DeProspero has exhibited and won awards for his sculptures and paintings in various shows and galleries in both the United States and Japan.
1st Semester Classes:
Computer Art and Animation I, first period
An introduction to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Flash. Students will learn the basics of photo manipulation, raster and vector graphics, and simple animation in Photoshop. In Flash, students will learn to create movies that include motion and shape tweening, sound, moving backgrounds, text morphing, onion skinning and other techniques.
Sculpture I, third and fourth periods
An introduction to sculpture and 3D art with emphasis on contemporary art and artists. Students will learn the basics of clay relief, slab roller, paper mache, plaster cloth construction, clay extrusion, 3D abstract form in wood, origamic architecture, environmental art, art history, etc.
2nd Semester Classes:
Visual Art I, first period
An introductory art course with lessons that include a variety of media and art techniques including drawing, painting, color theory, printing, perspective, principles and elements of art, air brush, sculpture and 3D art, classic and contemporary art and artists, art history, etc.
Sculpture II, second period (pre-requisite: sculpture I)
Advanced sculpture technique with emphasis on classic and contemporary art and artists. Students will learn clay slab construction, clay hand building (with possible wheel work), block carving, wire work, "in the round" abstract ceramic form, ceramic portrait bust, art history, etc.
Computer Art and Animation I, fourth period
